Nicholas J. Bernate
Mr. Bernate is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies. He attended law school at the Santa Clara University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, as a member of the Order of the Coif, and with a certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice. Mr. Bernate also made the Dean’s List each semester and received Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence in Advanced Torts, Prison Systems, and Criminal Law.
During law school, Mr. Bernate worked as a research assistant for Professor W. David Ball and clerked for the Sonoma County Public Defender’s Office. He was also involved in the Northern California Innocence Project, where he assisted indigent California inmates in raising claims of actual innocence and advocated for reforms aimed at preventing wrongful convictions. During his third year, Mr. Bernate clerked at the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office where he helped draft sections of an amicus brief for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining The Bledsoe Law Firm, Mr. Bernate worked for the law firm of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger. His work there focused on complex personal injury and wrongful death cases involving defective products, premises liability, dangerous conditions of property, and automobile collisions. Mr. Bernate is admitted to the State Bar of California.
